President of the Board
Jim is the Board President for Kin-nect, Inc. Since 1992 Jim Miller has been a trusted advisor to individuals as they plan their financial strategy for one of the largest investments of their lives. When it comes to a topic as important as deciding the best plan for purchasing your home, you want to examine your options and how they correlate with your personal financial plan. In addition to primary residential financing, including a specialty in Reverse Mortgages, Jim also works with real estate investors and commercial clients. Jim has been a licensed Realtor and is a member of the Society of Certified Senior Advisors. Jim believes that the best way to build a business is to create highly satisfied loyal customers who appreciate the work he has done for them and who feel excited to refer him to their friends, family, and co-workers.
Vice President of the Board
Cheryl has worked as a Social Studies and ESOL teacher for Anne Arundel County Public Schools her entire career. She has been actively involved in her community for many years as a member of the Annapolis Jaycees, a Board member of the Teacher’s Association of Anne Arundel County, and the Vice-President for Programs for the American Association of University in Women. Currently she is a Board member of Kin-nect. Cheryl has volunteered at nursing facilities and has cared for several friends and family members suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. There is so much to be done in this health area.
Mary Kay Robertson
Treasurer of the Board
Mary Kay is the founder of Kin-nect, Inc., a local non-profit started in 2013 which provides events for the elderly. She works as an office manager for a local IT solutions company. Mary Kay is the owner of Embrace Me, an online community which connects adults who want a familial bond, i.e. parent, child, sibling. She regularly volunteers at Brightview Senior Center and helps with sponsor relations for the Annapolis Film Festival. The subject of Alzheimer’s is very near and dear to Mary Kay’s heart since her mother has Alzheimer’s and her maternal great-grandmother, grandmother, two great-aunts, and uncle had
Clarence KD McNair
Clarence is a national Motown Recording Artist, member of Prophet Jones, celebrity entertainer, and East Baltimore native. He is currently working on an album, which will be released in 2017. He is a nationally sought after public speaker and works for high profile personalities and projects with national and international appeal in the entertainment industry. Mr. McNair is also a media holder and was recently featured in Minority Business Entrepreneur magazine (MBE mag). Clarence McNair has consulted and mentored PR firms and event planning visionary groups who has produced events for various entertainers and companies.
DEBRA WINWARD SMITH
Debra Smith has enjoyed many years of making seniors smile and feel valuable. Deb has lived in Annapolis, Maryland for 19 years and has been giving back to the local community and very active in the maritime heritage, hosting many fundraisers for charities including Leukemia, Spa Creek Conservation, Box of Rain, SPCA and The Dragon Boat Club. Deb has been on the board of several groups to help bring social awareness to their initiatives and their mission and vision.
CLARE G. VANDERBEEK
Clare has enjoyed her volunteer work with the elderly throughout high school and college. She has more than ten years’ experience volunteering for non-profit organizations and has more than 25 years as a marketing executive with the tourism and hospitality industry. Her non-profit volunteer work includes the Maryland Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Box of Rain Foundation and the Maryland Chapter of the Hospitality, Sales and Marketing Association, International. Clare has been a resident of Edgewater, Maryland for more than 20 years.
Diane has enjoyed spending time with seniors ever since she was a little girl. When Mary Kay shared her vision with her, she was excited to be part of an organization that catered to the needs of the aging population. Diane lives in Annapolisj, Maryland and enjoys all of the things that living near the water offers. She loves to go boating, photographing waterscapes and landscapes and enjoys kayaking and waterskiing! Her favorite pastimes are spending time with her family and volunteering. Diane has been in real estate for over 20 years and currently runs her own team “The Donnelly Group” of Keller Williams Flagship of Maryland. In addition to spending her time with Kin-nect, Diane also advocates for the environment with the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center where the Bay cleanup is a primary focus. ….And Diane wouldn’t be Diane, if she didn’t give attention to the Anne Arundel County SPCA where she likes to help find furry friends their “furever” homes. “The senior population has so much to teach us. It’s up to us to take the time to sit down and listen.”
TIFFANY L. LITHERLAND

Consulting, coaching, and profiling more than 60 businesses in branding and social business solutions, I am passionate about the magic of mindful business and social good practices. As an aside, I serve as an Executive Director and Member of the Board of Advisors for UPI Education, where I implemented a purpose designed Mentorship Program in 2014 aimed at educating young female students and women in branding and business development principles, complementing their current studies and knowledge while providing invaluable experience and training.
Nicky is a Professional Tour Golfer and Intuitive Golf Instructor. He is a high achieving athlete who has received a plethora of awards across various sports disciplines. His dedication to all that he does is unparalleled. He is the husband of wonderful wife, Tiffany Litherland, and is the proud father of three young daughters. He is committed to his daughter’s futures which is paramount, coupled with the love for the sport of golf and the charities that he actively represents. Nicky is motivated by his own internal desire to provide hope and inspiration to those who are less fortunate, empowering them to understand that despite adversity you can achieve your dreams.
Cheryl lives in Ramsey, Minnesota, is married and has two adult children. She and her husband have owned and operated their business, Brew & Grow, Inc. in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota, for 27 years. Cheryl handles the administration, human resources, and accounting matters. She also manages their social media and website. Prior to opening Brew & Grow, Cheryl was a secretary for an engineering firm and then after attending school, worked as a legal secretary, mainly in family law. She loved helping people going through difficult times with her compassion and good listening skills.
JOSEPHINE L B BOWERMAN
Josie has 10 years of experience working as an office administrator in high-level executive support roles. She worked with the Visual Arts Museum for North Carolina State University, Center for Growth and Development, and the North Carolina Board of Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists. She became a full-time parent raising her children with full devotion and attention. Her strengths include office management, grant writing, supervisory leadership, compliance and regulatory management, strong interpersonal skills, exhibition production management, public relations and schedule management.
Charlemagne works as an Administrative Coordinator at Medstar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. As a young teen she was a “Candy Striper” volunteer at a Keswick Nursing Home and into adulthood she continued to visit the residents with her children for many years, passing on the love of helping and caring. Over the years, she and her children have enjoyed the experiences of serving food at a local free dining spot for homeless individuals and has sought out places to volunteer throughout her life. She believes that joy is gained through the love she shares with others and cherishes the times she has been able to spend with the people she has helped and visited.
Secretary of the Board
Shannon is a former Board Secretary and General Counsel for Kin-nect, Inc. She is an attorney who has been practicing for 20 years. Shannon was instrumental with the production agreements for the documentary. She lives in Edgewater, MD where she resides with her husband and son.
